Message your dot

Message or call your dot in ChatGPT, and connect other contact methods.

You reach the same dot through each connected contact method. Changing channels doesn’t reset its memory. Slack and Teams conversations show the messages exchanged there; they don’t mirror every message from other channels. Your dot can use relevant context across those conversations. Before sharing information from a private conversation with other people, it checks that you’ve allowed it. See Context and memory.

Open your dot’s profile and select Add to see and connect the contact methods available to you. Connect apps and your computer separately to make them available for your dot’s work.

ChatGPT and voice

Create, message, or call your dot in the ChatGPT mobile app, desktop app, or a desktop browser. Mobile web is not supported.

To call your dot, open its conversation and select the phone button. In the desktop app, you can also select Call in its profile. Talk through a request, clarify a decision, or ask for a progress update. You can type messages while you’re talking, and your dot can also message you with progress or a question. Ending a call ends the voice conversation; work you’ve assigned can continue. Calls initiated by your dot are planned for after launch.

Slack and Teams

You can message your dot in Slack and Microsoft Teams. Connect the contact method in your dot’s profile. In Slack, you can send a direct message or add your dot to a channel and mention it in a thread.

By default, your dot responds to you in Slack. You can instruct it to engage with others. Existing permissions and safeguards still apply to what it shares and does. Your dot can message you privately to ask what you’re comfortable sharing before it replies in a channel.

Tell your dot where you want different updates. For example, keep routine progress in ChatGPT and ask it to bring decisions to you in Slack.

For monitoring, specify which channels to check, what to watch for, and when to notify you. Ask your dot to confirm the recurring task. Adding it to a channel doesn’t establish a monitoring schedule.

iOS widgets and shortcuts

Open your dot from your iPhone Home Screen, or use Apple Shortcuts to choose how to start a conversation. Use the latest ChatGPT iOS app and sign in to the account where you set up your dot. These features are rolling out with ChatGPT for iOS 1.2026.279 and require dot access.

Add the Your dot widget

The Your dot widget shows your dot’s name and appearance in a small Home Screen widget.

  1. Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen, then select Edit > Add Widget.
  2. Find ChatGPT, choose Your dot, and select Add Widget.
  3. Place the widget, then select Done.

Tap your dot to open its conversation with the message composer ready. For example, open it after a meeting to add a decision to work you’re already doing together.

To add message and call controls, touch and hold the widget, select Edit Widget, and turn on Show shortcut buttons. This setting is off by default. The message button opens the composer. The phone button appears when calling is available and starts a call or returns to an active one.

If the widget asks you to sign in or set up your dot, open ChatGPT and complete that step. Adding a widget doesn’t grant dot access to an account that doesn’t have it.

Create an Apple shortcut

ChatGPT provides one Open your dot action with three Mode choices:

Mode What it does
Messaging Opens your dot’s conversation for typing a message. This is the default.
Dictation Starts speech-to-text input for a message to your dot.
Call Starts a live voice conversation or returns to an active call.
  1. Open Apple’s Shortcuts app and create a new shortcut.
  2. Add an action, search for Open your dot, and select the ChatGPT action.
  3. Select your dot and choose a Mode.
  4. Name and save the shortcut, then run it to open ChatGPT in that mode.

For example, save a shortcut named “Talk to my dot” with Call mode for a spoken progress check. Use Dictation for a quick spoken note instead. Dictation isn’t available during an active call.

On an iPhone with an Action button, open Settings > Action Button, choose Shortcut, then Choose a Shortcut and select your saved shortcut. You can also run a saved shortcut from Apple’s Shortcuts Home Screen widget.

The action opens ChatGPT and requires authentication. If you switch accounts and a saved shortcut says the dot is no longer available, sign in to the account that owns it.
